Contemplating Life Past – Living Life by Your Terms

Contemplating Life Past – Living Life by Your Terms

Some days we sit back and contemplate our life don’t we? (well more so when we get a  little older  and we wonder where all those years have gone.

I looked at the date today and realised that I married my first wife 35 years ago today! It is  simply the time elapsed since then that I was remembering and what I have achieved in  those 35 years, culminating on where I am now.

Circumstances and events may have depleted me of certain physical assets and financial  security. Yet I believe through this process, I have enriched my life. I have secured who I  am, who I want to be and who I wish to share my life with. It is only then that you realise  that society has indoctrinated us all into believing that success and happiness is based on  this false economy of earn more, spend more, buy more and repeat!.

You can’t buy happiness. It is a state of mind and I have that happiness. It is shared with  someone very special. And I choose to share my life with others who have stumbled upon  the same conclusion.

Know this! The choice is yours if you choose to stand up and make that choice! So make  your choice and live the life you wish to live. Not how others think you should live it.

“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do” ~ Rumi ~

And furthermore, promise me this! Feel the true richness of life from deep within your  heart and not  some superficial icing on life that we have been brainwashed into believing.  Therefore, seek what is within as the Universe is within you! Thus feel the warmth  and  you shall find it  there!

And most importantly, stop and think for a moment longer. This so called ‘norm’ has really  only been in existence  for the last 60 years or so and sponsored by the corporate Western  world and their  preachers, the politicians.

Life is a compromise at times but never compromise your true values and the richness of  life itself…….

Hope – Do not give up. Try One More Time

hope never-give-up

When the world says give up, hope whispers, try one more time ~ Unknown

Just think of the future… think of your dreams…….think beyond the trials and tribulations of the now! Whilst you are alive there is always hope to ‘live the dream’ and make it a reality and remember….there is always a solution to any problem. Only that sometimes you may have to delve a little deeper into your soul to retrieve the answer.

‘Be strong now as things will get better. It may be stormy now but it will not rain forever.’

Now I too have known sorrow and despair in my life and indeed most of us have or will in time. This is a natural part of the Circle of Life. Yet never forget that there are countless numbers of ‘brothers & sisters’ of humanity experiencing a depth of despair far greater than you or I could ever imagine. And yet they survive through having Hope.

Hope that their circumstances will improve.
Hope that their basic needs of food, water and shelter will materialise.
Hope that their loved ones will regain their health.

Where there is Love there is Hope

Our needs and desires are all relative. However we all possess the ability to promote Hope in our lives. There is always light at the end of the proverbial tunnel and whilst you may see your life at present deep within the depths of a dark and damp tunnel remember this! The very nature of a tunnel is that there is an entry and an exit point and the light DOES exist at the end of this tunnel. It is up to you as to whether you take Hope by the arm and continue together along that tunnel to the light.

“Hope is not mere wishful thinking. It is the precursor of a new dawn that slowly, steadily and unerringly comes to the fore and eventually grows into reality’s existence.”  ~ Sri Chinmoy

Live and Experience Your Life’s List – The Gypsy Traveller on tour

Michael_Thornley Grey_Eagle Gypsy_ravellerLive and Experience Your Life’s List – The Gypsy Traveller on tour

G
reetings from Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia.

As many of you know I have been ‘Living the Lifestyle‘ that I chose and created for myself. I am a firm believer of ‘just doing it’ and ‘making it happen!

I am currently travelling all over South Eastern Australia with my ‘business based on my laptop’> All that is needed is simply an internet connection and then I can work from anywhere in the world! This is allowing me to live life I want and experience the many new and exciting adventures that the Universe is placing before me 🙂

IT CAN BE DONE!

For nearly 3 weeks now I have driven over 2,500 klms (1553 mls)  yet I have only seen such a very small part of this vast homeland we affectionately call the Land of Oz… i.e. Australia. And what a magnificent country it is! From the tropical rainforests that abound with life to the vast open plains of tawny coloured grasslands; from pyramid shaped hills and mountains covered in olive green Eucalyptus trees to the ever growing skyward city-scapes from where their suburban sprawls radiate out from.

From bright and often blinding sunshine to high winds and raging tempests……. to the softness of sleet falling upon ones face to the cold waters of the Bass straight awakening the spirit within.

We need to experience the changing of the seasons to renew and revitalize our body-clocks, especially those of us that reside in the sub-tropics or tropics of our north ( Southern Hemisphere).  By having a ‘true’ winter occasionally, it will bring us in tune with Mother Earth and the elements that exist throughout the Universe from which we are made of.

JUST DO IT!

I am also meeting some beautiful people along the way and for the very first time :)…… many of whom have been my friends on Social media for many years. This enhances the friendships that have been created (well in most instances….in fact some of them may be glad to see me drive off!! hahaha).

However in all seriousness, it is a time for self growth thus learning more about oneself along the way.

I have dreams and certain goals but I am always flexible to make the changes that are necessary. Some of the goals and dreams were pathways to a greater experience, thus I opened myself up to the direction that was placed before me.

These goals and dreams are on what I prefer to call a ‘Life List’ as a ‘Bucket List’ is defined as something to do once and ‘tick it off’ once it is completed. I may well want to do all or some of what I have experienced already over and over again!

Restrictions, (other than legal or moral laws of course) are not in my vocabulary. My body might tell me you are not as fit as you used to be sometimes but that is ok… I do as much as I can and simply give it a go. I would rather have tried than had ‘regrets’…another of those words I try never to use. Perhaps ‘misgivings’ for want of a better word…. for not of at least trying!!

LIVE AND EXPERIENCE YOUR LIFE’S LIST

So let me ask you this!….. Are you living your life? If not why not? And once you have come up with all the usual excuses, sit back and think about your dreams and goals and see that the reasons you are NOT living your life is because you are making excuses when you should be making choices!

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE’S DIRECTION. IT IS ENTIRELY UP TO YOU!

Life has not been easy for me either at times, especially over the last 9 years or so. I have made certain choices and experienced massive learning curves. But you know what? I have LIVED! I have NO regrets just lessons learnt. I have found ways and made changes to be where I am now. And no, it is not always easy but life is a continual process, not one to stuck inside a small box and vegetate.  LIVE IT!

So no more ‘I can’t afford it or I don’t have the time.’ YOU can and you do if you choose too….

Come see the world with me.

My boss tried to kill me (and what I did to him next)

True story: Back in 2007, I was flying a routine logistics mission with my commanding officer who, like me, was a combat-decorated and very seasoned aviator.

The mission was simple: fly from sunny San Diego to Fresno, California.

Easy day.

Except…

When we took off out of San Diego, it was the typical postcard weather: sunny, light breeze off the ocean, gorgeous.

When we approached Fresno an hour later…dense fog. For miles. And it was our turn to land.

My commanding officer (“Skipper” as we called him) was flying the approach while I sat in the right seat and backed him up by placing my hands gently on the controls.

As we descended, we plunged straight into the dense fog and entered the disorienting world of instrument flight; the Skipper was laser focused on the instruments as I kept a watchful eye out the window for the moment we broke through the fog.

And then, it happened. The most terrifying moment of my entire flight career.

I felt the Skipper pull a little too much power, and the aircraft sank at an alarming rate of decent. As we fell out of the fog, my heart slammed to a stop as I looked up to see…a tree.

Instinctively, I yelled, “WAVE OFF!” and shoved the throttles full forward.

Skipper pulled back on the controls and the airplane roared to the sky…missing the ground by mere feet.

We came within a fraction of a second of slamming into the ground, and leaving behind widows, orphans and a smoking hole in the ground.

There was no time to discuss, not time to negotiate and no time to consider options. We survived a near catastrophe because of a very important behavior: I questioned my boss’s authority.

And yes, he openly encouraged that. That’s what exceptional Leaders do.

Of course, there’s a “right” way and a host of ineffective ways to do it. And I discuss this in-depth on today’s episode of The High-Altitude Mentorship Show™ podcast:

http://jtdebolt.com/entrepreneurship/why-you-should-question-authority/

Look, this is an important trait for High-Performers, especially in today’s “sheeple” society, where most people blindly follow celebrities, politicians and self-appointed “experts”.

Just because the “gurus” and “thought leaders” are pumping others full of sentiment and “follow your bliss” propaganda doesn’t mean you have eat what they’re shoveling.

Think critically.
Wake up.
Keep your head on a swivel.
And question these “experts” always.

Including (and especially) me.

It may never come down to a life-and-death decision, but questioning authority will at the very least keep you from falling asleep at the wheel, blindly following flimsy rhetoric and prevent you from creating a “smoking hole” in the ground of your business, career or life.

You have my permission to question authority (not that you needed it). Now we’ll see what you do with it.

Fly High. Fly Fast. Fly Far.

Autopilot- turn it off and get on with living!

Autopilot – turn it off!

Our guest blogger today is Catriona Pollard.  When I read her Email  I instantly related to having been on Autopilot in the past and have, in the last few years, made a personal choice and commitment to ‘stop, look & listen’ to life.

Knowing that many of you remain on Autopilot, I wanted to share her message with you and for you ALL to ‘stop look and listen’ in your own lives…. it IS a beautiful world out there if you WANT to find it!

Change your thoughts Michael_Thornley

It’s time to stop running on autopilot

” My parents visited me the other day. Often we go for lunch or coffee, but it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon so we went for a stroll. As we walked my parents remarked on houses, and fences, and trees…a running commentary on our walk.

I have walked past these houses, fences and trees many times but no longer notice them. Through my parents’ eyes, I looked at them and saw them in a different way.

It made me think. How much in our lives do we no longer notice? I decided to test this idea.

Walking backwards

On the bush track I walk most days I decided to do my circuit in the opposite direction. Do you know what happened? I got lost twice. Seriously! I couldn’t believe it. I missed the start of one section and had to double back.

At one point I was standing looking at the entrances of two tracks and simply couldn’t figure out which one was my track. In fact, I never even knew there were two tracks in that section. Astounding!

I realised that often I’m lost in my thoughts while walking – which is not a bad thing as it’s my time to problem solve and come up with new ideas – but clearly I’m not taking notice of my surroundings either.

Turning off autopilot

How often are we on autopilot?

  • Have you ever driven to work and got to the car park and completely not remembered the drive?
  • Do you constantly check your emails on your phone, even though it states, “Last updated 2 minutes ago”?
  • Are you just so in your routine you rarely do anything spontaneous?

It’s really interesting to consider these questions. Even though I don’t consider that I’m living a life on autopilot, clearly at times I am. Now I’m trying to notice if I’m simply following a routine, and if possible, to snap out of autopilot and be in the moment instead.

What about you? Maybe it’s time to ditch your personal sat nav and think about achieving some new goals…such as stepping into the spotlight.

Here’s to seeing you in the spotlight.

Four Pillars of a Good Life- Health Wealth Love & Happiness

The Four Pillars of a Good Life are – Health, Wealth, Love and Happiness.

the-4-pillars-of-the-good-life

AGood Life’ is relative to the individual and the ‘4 Pillars of a ‘Good Life– Health, Wealth, Love and Happiness are the main criteria in varying degrees to achieve this goal. Together, they can create the lifestyle you seek and the ‘Good Life‘  you deserve!

Let us assist you in creating the Good Life with the Courses and Resources we have made available to you at Michael Thornley Org.

The Dalai Lama tells us that “The point to life is happiness.” Yet so many of us struggle to find it in a world full of stress and expectation.

People tend to believe that in order to achieve happiness you need only have money (wealth) and to amass a host of material objects. But to have wealth alone does not necessarily bring you health, love and/or happiness.  Additionally, many people judge success purely on wealth, yet it is a combination of all these factors that achieves positive results in your life.

Remember, we should also be rich of heart and soul as well , an important asset to have in driving your passion to achieve your goals. And believing in yourself and having the faith and fortitude to step outside the square or at the very least to push out from your bubble is paramount in obtaining the ‘Good Life

I firmly believe that a combination of Wealth, Health and Love can indeed equal Happiness.  A ‘Good Life’ is a balance of all these factors. :)…………..

Rhino’s – On the brink of extinction

Rhino-species

Rhino’s – On the brink of extinction

MORE THAN 5,000 RHINOS HAVE BEEN POACHED IN SOUTH AFRICA SINCE 2010. ONE RHINO IS KILLED EVERY 6 HOURS. RHINOS WILL BE EXTINCT IN THE WILD BY 2024, IF WE DO NOT ACT NOW.

As many of my friends know I have been a conservationist all my life. No not a ‘greeny‘ as such but a realist in that sometimes ‘mankind’ MUST assist in the conservation of all that Mother Earth nurtures.

More often than not is is because of ‘Mankind’ that species are threatened or become extinct.  However we also have the power to try and rectify the atrocities caused by archaic beliefs or simply from greed and some weird ego play these modern day so called sporting  ‘hunters’ have.

Rhino’s (Rhinoceros) the world over have been hunted and poached for their horns or forced to the verge of extinction by increasing demand on their habitats.

White-Rhinos Australia-Zoo

I for one support captive breeding in order to save the species and there are many movements that are working hard yet need our support to achieve this.  Withing the Order of the Southern Cross Organisation of which I founded in 2010, we have a Conservation arm- CSO-OSC Conservation of Species  group committed to the education and awareness of ‘mankinds’ effect on all living things.
OSC-CSO                                                       CSO-OSC Conservation of Species
And I personally support the International efforts to create breeding populations of all 5 species and subspecies to assist in the protection of those remaining in the wild.
In addition, I encourage the education of certain traditional cultures surrounding the NON aphrodisiac properties in the keratin of a horn and the reduction of poverty in the  ‘poaching’ communities of Africa.

The following is just one of fabulous International efforts to save the White and Black Rhino’s by relocating 80 individuals to Australia.

Sort through the Chickens to find the Eagles!

eagle-flying sort-through-chickens-fly-with-eagles” Sort through the Chickens to find the Eagles! Do you want to scratch around like chickens or soar with the Eagles?”

I love this analogy and this is true in life as in business. Many are simply happy and content with living their same old same old routine and that is fine. Whilst others wish to experience more in life and push out and motivate themselves to improve their lives…. that is fine too.

However, we will find that some of these chickens are envious of the eagles and so they mock the young eaglets as they try to fly. Yet when the Eagles do finally fly, the chickens become jealous of the freedom that the eagles have achieved in soaring high.

We all need to reassess our life’s plan at time. So ask yourself this question “am I happy with where my life is heading to or indeed where I have arrived at this particular moment in time? If so great 🙂 ……..  If not then ask yourself this “‘ What can I DO to make the necessary changes to get back on my life’s pathway. Remember, this is YOUR pathway.

To achieve this journey you need to remove those negative jealous chickens and surround yourself with other eaglets and eagles. Follow and learn from those that have achieved the life that you wish to have. Make a commitment to yourself to ‘Achieve Your Dreams’. There are very few things in life that are impossible to achieve. I agree that it is unlikely that I will ever be President of the United States or the Pope. However with all due respect to those that are elected to these most important public offices, I have no desire to be either of these roles, even if I could. This is NOT my life plan. But it is theirs and I admire and respect those that achieve their ultimate goal.

I have worked hard and long to get the lifestyle I wish. Yes I have made a great many sacrifices in both time and money. This is all part of the adventure! Yet with receiving some support along the way from those that at least believed in me, even if they do not necessarily agree with my method of achieving my lifestyle,  I am now well on my way to achieving my dreams!

YOU can do it too. Look around you. Who or what is not serving you and hindering you. If it is a thought in your own mind that is stopping you from achieving your goals, then work through it! Push out of your comfort zone, push away those that are planting these negative seeds and take a chance! If you don’t take chances in life then you will never achieve your full potential. Take a small step now…. then another and you will see that it is not that bad afterall. Yes it can be a daunting  but ‘just do it!.

And World Traveller- join me at Dream Trips

Dream-Trips-Vacation-Club You-should-be-here

Be true to your beliefs.

ask-believe-receive be-true-to-yourselfBe true to your beliefs … stand up for what is right…learn and grow from your interaction with society but do not waiver from your soul.

I am making all necessary changes to live by my convictions. What is true to Me, to my soul and to my heart. And let me say the term ‘soul’ does not belong to any religion…. it is your inner being.

This is something that we should all consider doing at times. Often we get swept away with all that is going on around us and forget, albeit momentarily, the core of who we are. I am not a religious man but I am a man of my own spiritual beliefs emanating from our ancestors and working together in harmony with Mother Earth and the energy that abounds throughout the universe.

Recently I found the ugliness of fanaticism and the bias and ignorance of some individuals raise its ugly head again which made me take a step back to reassess my own direction in life. I noticed that I was trying to walk multiple paths and this was not serving me as it should. I immediately closed the gates to some and politely exited others to return to my central being.

The world is currently seeing a global resurgence of extremists and I will not be swayed or drawn into any of the quarrels or the pettiness that has become apparent. It does not mean I  am ignorant nor am I choosing to be oblivious to current events. It is just that I see no purpose in compounding them. Yet I do stand tall against any extremist movements that bring deliberate or unnecessary harm to any living thing and for that I may not remain silent!

Yet that is only one aspect of my present defragmenting of my mind.  Since I was a child I have resonated with the natural world and it with me.  I guess it wasn’t that I strayed from this path but as alluded to above, I walked a number of paths or as we say, I was wearing many hats at once. All were worn in good faith and respect and these avenues were of interest to me due to my family history. But the core of their existence was not me…. it was an integral part of my spiritual journey to experience all of it over the last 16 years and it is something I will write about in time…… Sharing ‘My Spiritual Journey’.

So tonight as I write this I am feeling calmer and clearer and true.  I am listening to soothing music and being creative….. this is what I love.

Blessings to all,
Michael
