Social Media – a great way to make new friends

friendship social_media
Over the years Social Media has been blamed for many things such as feeding peoples addictive behaviour; creating face to face communication breakdown; the breaking up of marriages etc. It is not Social Media that is to blame but the choices you as an individual make. In most cases it is used as an excuse for all these social issues.

However I do acknowledge that most of us including myself check our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts daily. Yet it is a means of keeping in touch with our family and friends and what is happening in the world. We used to spend hours watching TV, reading newspapers, writing letters or talking on the phone. Now we have instant access 24/7 the world over and that is an incredible advancement in communication…. we simply need to be sensible in how we utilise this service.

I personally have found Social media to be a godsend at times in my life when I have experienced periods of loneliness or in times of stress and hardship. In using Facebook as an example, I have found like-minded and empathetic people around the world who have been ‘on-line’ friends for years. And in my opinion they are true friends whether you have had the pleasure to meet them face to face or not.

Social media allows you to share your experiences and adventures and our photographs of family and friends and our interaction with others will tell you allot about that particular person. The old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words runs true. In the majority of cases I can judge the calibre’ of the person by the  subject matter of their photographs along with the types of  memes (pictures with messages written on them) and the various posts that they share.

And I have confirmed my ‘intuition’ by meeting many of my Facebook friends from all over the world and as many of you know, I am currently meeting and staying with some of these  ‘Facebook’ friends for the very first time. They have entrusted their own instinct and intuition from having  known me on-line for many years………. And I am most humbled and blessed for their trust in me. And so I have now enhanced many of these friendships with people that I would most likely never have met had it not been for Social media.

Of course to clarify, many ‘friends’ on Social Media are just acquaintances so to speak. However my point is that Social Media can indeed be a positive experience provided you are sensible and practical in it’s application and inclusion in your daily routine.

The Michael Thornley Organisation supports Community Engagement in the Humanitarian and Conservation fields.
(‘Community engagement’ is  a process with the specific purpose of working with identified groups of people, whether they are connected by geographic location, special interest, or affiliation or identify to address issues affecting their well-being’)

The Michael Thornley Organisation proudly endorse the following Foundations-

The Order of the Southern Cross (OSC) is a Humanitarian and Conservation Foundation. It was formed in June 2010 by Michael Thornley bringing together a network of people of all faiths and ideals to work together for the education, health and well being of our global children.

The OSC also formed a Conservation arm of the Foundation known as the CSO-OSC Conservation of Species Foundation.

Rhino-Australia community conservation

More than 5,000 rhinos have been poached in South Africa since 2010, and it’s only escalating every year. At this rate, rhinos will be extinct within the next ten years. We need to act now to ensure that rhinos survive this epidemic.

At The Australian Rhino Project, our mission is to fly 80 African rhinos, 11,000 kms from South Africa to Australia, to establish an insurance population and ensure the survival of the species. They need your support before it’s too late.

The Black and White rhinoceros of Africa are under severe threat and potentially on the verge of extinction in their wild habitat due to excessive poaching, driven by a burgeoning market for rhino horn in China and Vietnam.

Durrell conservation

Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is an international charity working globally to save species from extinction.

Our Wildlife Park, Field Programmes and Conservation Academy come together to deliver a unique approach to tackling today’s conservation problems. This allows us to stop declines of threatened species in the short term and to build the necessary skills and capacity to recover species and habitats in the long term.

With limited resources we have to choose where we work carefully. We prioritise our actions on species and in places where we can have most impact. Each of our conservation projects is reliant on collaborations with national and international partners, whose support is essential to achieving sustained success.

There are three central components to the work we carry out at home and overseas. First all our conservation efforts are based on sound science and wherever possible we publish our results to demonstrate our impacts. We act rapidly as many of the species we work with are very close to extinction. From captive breeding programmes to controlling invasive species to forest management, it often requires a suite of actions to save species and promote their recovery. Finally, we support the development of capacity within local communities and partner organisations to build a long term future for conservation.

Four Pillars of a Good Life- Health Wealth Love & Happiness

The Four Pillars of a Good Life are – Health, Wealth, Love and Happiness.

the-4-pillars-of-the-good-life

AGood Life’ is relative to the individual and the ‘4 Pillars of a ‘Good Life– Health, Wealth, Love and Happiness are the main criteria in varying degrees to achieve this goal. Together, they can create the lifestyle you seek and the ‘Good Life‘  you deserve!

Let us assist you in creating the Good Life with the Courses and Resources we have made available to you at Michael Thornley Org.

The Dalai Lama tells us that “The point to life is happiness.” Yet so many of us struggle to find it in a world full of stress and expectation.

People tend to believe that in order to achieve happiness you need only have money (wealth) and to amass a host of material objects. But to have wealth alone does not necessarily bring you health, love and/or happiness.  Additionally, many people judge success purely on wealth, yet it is a combination of all these factors that achieves positive results in your life.

Remember, we should also be rich of heart and soul as well , an important asset to have in driving your passion to achieve your goals. And believing in yourself and having the faith and fortitude to step outside the square or at the very least to push out from your bubble is paramount in obtaining the ‘Good Life

I firmly believe that a combination of Wealth, Health and Love can indeed equal Happiness.  A ‘Good Life’ is a balance of all these factors. :)…………..

Rhino’s – On the brink of extinction

Rhino-species

Rhino’s – On the brink of extinction

MORE THAN 5,000 RHINOS HAVE BEEN POACHED IN SOUTH AFRICA SINCE 2010. ONE RHINO IS KILLED EVERY 6 HOURS. RHINOS WILL BE EXTINCT IN THE WILD BY 2024, IF WE DO NOT ACT NOW.

As many of my friends know I have been a conservationist all my life. No not a ‘greeny‘ as such but a realist in that sometimes ‘mankind’ MUST assist in the conservation of all that Mother Earth nurtures.

More often than not is is because of ‘Mankind’ that species are threatened or become extinct.  However we also have the power to try and rectify the atrocities caused by archaic beliefs or simply from greed and some weird ego play these modern day so called sporting  ‘hunters’ have.

Rhino’s (Rhinoceros) the world over have been hunted and poached for their horns or forced to the verge of extinction by increasing demand on their habitats.

I for one support captive breeding in order to save the species and there are many movements that are working hard yet need our support to achieve this.  Withing the Order of the Southern Cross Organisation of which I founded in 2010, we have a Conservation arm- CSO-OSC Conservation of Species  group committed to the education and awareness of ‘mankinds’ effect on all living things.
OSC-CSO                                                       CSO-OSC Conservation of Species
And I personally support the International efforts to create breeding populations of all 5 species and subspecies to assist in the protection of those remaining in the wild.
In addition, I encourage the education of certain traditional cultures surrounding the NON aphrodisiac properties in the keratin of a horn and the reduction of poverty in the  ‘poaching’ communities of Africa.

The following is just one of fabulous International efforts to save the White and Black Rhino’s by relocating 80 individuals to Australia.

Have you heard of Fiverr ?

Fiverr_Logo, Michael Thornley

There is nothing quite like Fiverr.com when it comes to outsourcing for your business. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 2 years, Fiverr.com is a website that is dedicated to US$5 jobs! People will do all sorts of different things for US$5, from making videos, promoting your website, or even collecting & sending you sea shells from their local beach lol.

You’d be surprised how much you can outsource on Fiverr for a measly US$5. If you’re already familiar with Fiverr.com then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

I have utilised the services of Fiverr on a number of occasions and found those that I have  dealt with efficient and trustworthy. Besides, the Fiverr system does not pay them unless you are happy with their service.

However, it also gave me an idea that some of you out there are looking for additional work so why not list your services on there! People are looking for many different types of services so ask yourself….. what are you best at? And US$5-00 is only a starting point. You must offer a basic service for that amount but then you can promote the other services that you do for a higher cost.

Now i want you to know that whilst I am an Entrepreneur, I am simply sharing this with you as my trusted subscribers. I do NOT receive any form of financial benefit form Fiverr.com for promoting them .

Just some FREE & FRIENDLY advice 🙂

The 10 Questions You Absolutely Must Ask Before Choosing a Home-Based Business

Google tricks you never knew about

google logo

The best search results require some thought

Whenever we need to know anything these days, the majority of us immediately go to Google for the answer. But there’s more to getting the best result than simply typing your query directly into the search box. Here are a few tips for getting better results from Google*.

You may have been searching incorrectly

If you want to search a specific site, begin your search with ‘site’. For example, if you want to find an alien story on The Courier-Mail website, type ‘site:couriermail.com.au alien’.

To find the dictionary definition of a word, type ‘define’ in front of your search.

Little words are a no-no

Common words like ‘a’ and ‘and’ are known as ‘stop words’ and Google ignores them.

However, if they are in a specific phrase or quote they need to be included. For example, if you were looking for a film quote such as “we’re gonna need a bigger boat”, type it in full in quotation marks for the best results.

Google has a sense of humour

The ‘did you mean’ tag can either be a friend or an enemy, but it can also be funny. Type in ‘anagram’ to find a gem.

You can still play Pacman

In May 2010, the Google Doodle was an interactive Pacman game that cost the nation 4.82 million person hours in time-wasting. You can still idle away a few hours by searching ‘Play Pacman’ into the search.

You can make Google flip out

Type ‘do a barrel roll’ into the search box and watch as your browser does acrobatics. Another good command is ‘askew’. Try it.

You can make your own Google logo

You can make your Google page your own with Goglogo.

It’s a calculator

For a quick answer to a maths equation, just type it into the search engine. It’s quicker than Stephen Hawking.
