Rewilding – restoring and protecting Mother Nature

Rewilding Michael-ThornleyRewilding – restoring and protecting Mother Nature

‘Rewilding is large-scale conservation aimed at restoring and protecting natural processes and core wilderness areas, providing connectivity between such areas, and protecting or reintroducing apex predators and keystone species.”

Rewilding is all about…

Habitats expanding instead of shrinking

Habitats expanding instead of shrinking

Wildlife multiplying instead of disappearing

People reconnecting with the wonder of nature

Communities flourishing with new opportunities

Communities flourishing with new opportunities

Origin

” The word rewilding was coined by conservationist and activist Dave Foreman, one of the founders of the group Earth First! who went on to help establish both the Wildlands Project (now the Wildlands Network) and the Rewilding Institute.

The term first occurred in print in 1990 and was refined by conservation biologists Michael Soulé and Reed Noss in a paper published in 1998.  According to Soulé and Noss, rewilding is a conservation method based on “cores, corridors, and carnivores.”[ The concepts of cores, corridors, and carnivores were developed further in 1999. Dave Foreman subsequently wrote the first full-length exegesis of rewilding as a conservation strategy” – Wikipedia.

Rewilding Europe

Rewilding Europe is closest in scale and ambition to the Buffalo Commons in North America, and aims to:

  1. Rewild 1 million hectares of land in Europe by 2020, creating 10 magnificent wildlife and wilderness areas which may serve as inspirational showcases all across Europe.
  2. Help turn the problems caused by the on-going land abandonment into opportunities for man and nature alike, providing a viable business case for wild nature in Europe.
  3. Launch a new conservation vision for Europe, with wild nature and natural processes as key elements, where rewilding is applicable to any type of landscape or level of protection.

Their active sites are:

  • Western Iberia
  • Eastern Carpathians
  • Danube Delta
  • Southern Carpathians
  • Velebit

Rewilding OSC-CSO Michael-Thornley

Rewilding is restoring the balance to Mother Earth.  The planet was not created simply for the indulgences of the human race, it is the home for all living things to live in ‘balance’, one which has been evolving over millennia.

We are responsible for tipping the scales to destruction, including our own demise if we continue on this downward spiral. However, we still have time albeit at the eleventh hour to right some of the wrongs and once again live in harmony with all that Mother Nature nurtures.

Rumi – Poet and Scholar

The Love and Wisdom of Rumi, Persian Poet & Scholar

Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī also known as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhī and more popularly simply as Rumiwas a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian and Sufi mystic.

His work transcends location, ethnicities, time, language and spirituality and has millions of followers the world over.

Rumi quotes
Some of his Love and Wisdom quotes:-

“Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.”

“Love is the bridge between you and everything.”

“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.”

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”

“Wherever you are, and whatever you do, be in love.”

“That which is false troubles the heart, but truth brings joyous tranquility.”

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”

“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder”

“What you seek is seeking you.”

As an admirer and ‘student’ of Rumi’s work, I am proud and humbled to be sharing his wisdom with my own photographs. (You are welcome to share them provided they are in their original and complete form)

Emerald City – Grant Dodwell’s Australian National Theatre Live

Emerald-City David-Williamson

Grant Dodwell’s Australian National Theatre Live brings Emerald City into cinemas.

Recently on my Gypsy Traveller Tour of Eastern Australia, I had the good fortune to be invited to the screening of Grant Dodwell’s Australian National Theatre Live production of ‘Emerald City’ in Nambour, Queensland.

Emerald City is a 1987 play by Australian playwright David Williamson, a satire about two entertainment industries: film and publishing.

“This very 1980’s social comedy — about a successful writer who moves from rainy, serious Melbourne to sunny, hedonistic Sydney and falls in love with the tantalizing appeal of a house by the water — still works.”

Michael-Thornley Grant-Dodwell
Author Michael Thornley meets Actor Producer Grant Dodwell in Nambour, Queensland

The Australian National Theatre Live ‘ANT’ is bringing the ‘Live’ theatre experience to a number of areas in Australia that may not have ready access to live plays at the major theatre companies.

The majority of these theatre companies are capital city based and with the vast distances that occur in Australia, ANT saw an opportunity to provide the next best thing to an actual live performance. That is to film a live performance in such a way that the audience can absorb the inclusive ambiance that live theatre creates. In other words you feel that you are part of the play and that you are actually an integral component of  the ‘set’ and not simply seated as an observer.

Having experienced ‘live theatre’ on many occasions I can honestly say that this concept works! Well done Grant and the team! I wish you all every success.

So do yourself a favour, if you have the opportunity ensue that you see the Australian National Theatre Live’s film production of the Aussie classic play ‘Emerald City’ by playwright David Williamson.

Dating on a Budget

Dating on a Burget cover (2)Dating on a Budget – Living and Loving on a Shoestring!

A humorous yet informative guide to those readying themselves for a journey into the world of dating. It also provides thought provoking ideas for couples looking to bring fun and frivolity back into their relationships.

There are practical solutions, numerous cost saving measures and handy tips for those on a limited budget. A lighthearted yet sincere look into world of dating.

Author Michael E Thornley supports many of the suggestions with his whimsical quips and forthright encouragement (and sometimes discouragement should the situation require it. e.g. Like “run for the hills “ 🙂

We are sure you will enjoy this guide and Happy Dating!

Here is an excerpt from the book………

First Date tips

  • Be polite, courteous and thoughtful.
(Say your pleases and thank you’s and put that cell phone away!)

  • Do NOT talk too much about your ex’s
(unless you want to get rid of your date as soon as you have had a feed, then by all means go for it! Ex away!)

  • A man should be a gentleman…. a lady a lady. (Well for the first 15 minutes at least whilst you size each other up.)

  • Listen carefully to what the other is saying and even more importantly to what they are NOT saying.
( If they are talking with their back to you or ogling the wait staff, then I think you should order the cheapest thing on the menu if you are paying or the dearest if you are not)

  • Smile and look the other person in the eyes when you speak to them
( But don’t smile if they are telling you a sad story. And please don’t give that nervous cheezy grin you have or they will be thinking like… ‘Weird’!…. Either way make sure you clean your teeth before hand to remove any evidence of the days snacks that only now become apparent when you smile)

  • Learn their name quickly!
( don’t get the previous date nor the one following this one confused with the one siting opposite you now! This is MOST important! You know the hesitation when you go ummm.. Sally?…Jessy?…Raphael?)

  • Laugh sincerely even if the joke is lame.
( But don’t snort or laugh so loud causing the drink waiter to drop their tray of glasses in fright!)

  • If fine dining, ensure you place the napkin on your lap, if indeed the waiter has not officiated in that duty when you first sit down.
( remember the napkin goes on your lap NOT tucked into the top of your open shirt or blouse. AND if you insist on doing this then be careful not to mistake the linen table cloth for a napkin, otherwise ….well you know…..first impressions and all that with the food and drinks now on the floor with silence throughout the dining room.)”

Rich Dad Poor Dad- 4 Pillars of a Good Life – Wealth

learn-to-create-your-dream                                Rich Dad Poor Dad- 4 Pillars of a Good Life – Wealth

Today i am sharing with you a video from my Youtube  Channel featuring Robert Kiyosaki on the Oprah Winfrey Show a few years ago.

Robert Toru Kiyosaki (born April 8, 1947) is an American businessman, investor, self-helpauthor, educator, motivational speaker, financial literacy activist, financial commentator, and radio personality. Kiyosaki is the founder of the Rich Dad Company, a private financial education company that provides personal financial and business education to people through books, games, seminars, blogs, coaching, and workshops.[3] He is also the creator of the Cashflow board and software games to educate adults and children business and financial concepts…. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

I agree with Robert’s philosophy and it continues to ring true. It is our ‘mindset’ that holds many of us back from achieving our full potential. We need to break away from the archaic education system that teaches us to be ’employees/followers/serfs/workers’. We have been brainwashed to serve others. Time to serve OURSELVES!

Indie Authors (Indie being a short form of Independent) are basically ‘If you see yourself as the creative director of your books, from concept to completion and beyond, then you’re Indie.”

There is some debate  over the use of this term but for me I consider myself an ‘Indie Author’ as I conceive the idea, write the book, self publish it and promote and sell my work.

And talking of work and writing, I am currently in the process of writing about ‘Self Publishing with Kindle Self Publishing and it is my intention to have it out early May! Twists of Fate is a spellbinding collection of 5 short stories set in the land down-under by Australian Author Michael E Thornley. The decisions and consequent outcomes made by the individual characters gives credence to the saying ” You Reap what you Sow’.

However, the choices that we make in life may not necessarily provide us with the outcome we desire. Yet it may reward us with the future we deserve, whether we wish it or not!. So be careful what you wish for as it just may come true!

Written in the narrative style of the ‘Twilight Zone’ the ‘Twists of Fate’ may not be what you expected. It certainly was not what the characters in the book expected!… that is part of the charm and enjoyment of this series of short stories by Author Michael E Thornley.

Digital Information Products are the go! – with Michael Thornley

T
oday’s post was inspired by a message from one of my Mentors Matt Lloyd, CEO of MOBE (My Online Business Education).

Now I am a Titanium Business Consultant for MOBE. Yet the purpose of my blog today is to share with you the mindset and apparent reluctance exhibited by some of people when it comes to purchasing or trusting in digital information products.

My business structure is based on digital information products. These include my published Amazon Kindle Books; my Business Education material with over 100 courses and resources available to you through my partnership with MOBE and my Travel Club offering experiences and opportunities through World Ventures Dream Trips.

” As someone who markets digital information online, you will from time to time meet people who ridicule the idea of paying money in exchange for something they can’t hold in their hand.

Such people don’t understand the potential value of ideas—information you can use to do things, including making money.” Matt Lloyd

This does apply in some cases and in particular to those of an ‘maturing ‘ age 🙂  The younger ones have mostly accepted that we are already well and truly in the ‘Information Age’ (and yes, many of us older ones like me have also! )

” The kind of person who argues that buying digital information is essentially buying nothing (because you can’t hold it in your hand) is the same kind of person who would rather hold on to his $100 and suffer in freezing temperatures—perhaps become ill or even die—because it doesn’t buy him something he can hold in his hand.”

Indeed and perhaps they will never change. Yet let us look at just some examples of where one pays for ‘Information’ I share the following from Mat Lloyd.

” Digital information and downloads are the most modern method for doing something we’ve been doing for centuries: paying people for their knowledge and experience. Here are a few examples of that:

  • Education. You can pay five or six figures for a college education. You aren’t paying all that cash just for that piece of paper you get at the end, are you?
  • Lawyers. It can be quite costly to hire a lawyer to handle your will, divorce, incorporation, or to defend you in a legal matter. What do you carry out of their office in exchange?
  • Consultants. You hire them to advise you on how to expand your business or how to redecorate your home. Even a personal trainer is a consultant for your physical improvement. What do you take delivery of after you pay them?
  • Tax preparers. Unless you truly love to do your own taxes, most of us are more than grateful to be able to pay an expert to do it for us and, with electronic filing, walk out their office completely “empty-handed.”
  • Plumbers, mechanics. They often give you the benefit of their knowledge, even if they don’t have to replace parts.
  • Movies, concerts, sporting events. You buy a ticket and attend the show or event and all you get for the price of your ticket is an experience—nothing you can put in your hand or your pocket (except the actual ticket).”

Therefore we have already been accustomed to this type of service only that so much more is now being offered world wide via the Internet.

I know that from when I first got on the Net that my knowledge and skills have been enhanced immensely. The people I have met ‘online’and continue to learn from in life is totally amazing. AND I have grasped this opportunity with both hands and learnt what I can to continue to improve upon my experiences and my knowledge.

So if you have had some reluctance in expanding your horizons on the Net, then it is time to push out from your comfort zone as you are missing out on so much information and personal growth.  I am here to assist you and guide you….. my supporters and my friends…..  so please do not be afraid to ask for guidance 🙂

One last question to you…. Have you read my E-books from Amazon yet? If you find the ‘thought’ of  reading  books in Kindle format a little daunting, I can assure you that it is very easy! Do not be embarrassed and simply as for help 🙂 just send and email to m.thornley@yahoo.com

Paraprosdokians – What did you say?

 Paraprosdokians
I had heard of them and used them but I have never known what they are called. Well now I know…. Paraprosdokians

They are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and is frequently humorous. (Sir Winston Churchill was one who loved them).

1. Where there’s a will, I want to be in it
2. Why do Americans choose from just two people to run for president and 50 for Miss America?
3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
4. If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
5. We never really grow up — we only learn how to act in public.
6. War does not determine who is right, only who is left.
7. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
9. I didn’t say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
10. In filling out an application, where it says, “In case of emergency, notify…” I answered “a doctor.”
11. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.
12. You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
13. I used to be indecisive, but now I’m not so sure.
14. To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.
15. Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
16. You’re never too old to learn something stupid.
17. I’m supposed to respect my elders, but it’s getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
18 Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
19. How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?
20. The last thing I want to do is hurt you … but it’s still on my list.

Paraprosdokians ….My kind of humour 🙂
