My Motivation Secret – Find Your WHY To Succeed And Use Pain As Fuel To Motivate You Towards Success

You Need A Strong Enough WHY!

You’ve likely heard this from all of the self-help guru’s out there…

If you’re struggling with motivation, it’s simply because you don’t have a strong enough WHY.

You see, you need a purpose behind everything that you do.  Without a purpose or any compelling reason to do something, you simply won’t feel motivated to do it.

Want to make a six figure per year passive income?

Great… but WHY?

When you ask most people this, they likely don’t have any compelling reason to drive them.  Or if they do have reasons, it’s simply not a strong enough motivator for them.

One person might say, “Well, I’d like to make more money so that I can travel more and have more fun.”

While that might be a good reason, how strong of a reason is that for you?  How badly do you want to travel more and have more fun in your life?

The answer to that depends on how much EMOTION you associate to that reason.

Another person might say, “I must make more money so that I can get out of debt and pay my bills this month.”

With this reason, the person will likely be more motivated because the reason has more EMOTION associated to it.  You can tell it’s a MUST for the person, not an “I’d like to…”  This is a more powerful WHY and motivator.

The more REASONS you can have to achieve a goal, the better.

But the REAL POWER comes down to how POWERFUL, EMOTIONALLY-DRIVEN your reasons and purpose is.

What Drives Human Beings To Do What They Do…

There’s two twin forces that drive human beings to do what they do:  Pain and Pleasure.

Human beings will do almost anything to avoid pain and to gain pleasure.  This is directly from Tony Robbins – he calls it the Pain Pleasure Principle (PPP).

Out of the two, which do you think is more of a motivator for people?  Pain or Pleasure?

Most people are more driven by the PAIN of potentially losing something, rather than the PLEASURE of potentially gaining something.

When it comes to your WHY and PURPOSE for achieving your goals, the more pain-inducing reasons you can have, the better.  You want to use PAIN as fuel motivate you.

For example, here’s some of the pain-inducing reasons that have motivated me throughout my life:

  • I got my heart broken by a girl when I was 16 years old.  I used the PAIN of that to drive me to change my life, as my reason was I NEVER AGAIN wanted to be in a position where I got my heart broken like that.  I wanted to AVOID the pain of never again feeling hopeless and having to suffer like that again.  I made the decision and set a goal to change myself socially.  It was this compelling reason WHY that drove me to face my fears, push my comfort zone and become a more confident, attractive person.
  • In my early twenties, I went through a painful break up with a girl that I was madly in love with.  One experience that occurred was feeling physically weak and powerless to stand up to another guy that was hitting on my girlfriend.  The pain of that experience gave me a strong enough reason to change myself physically.  I never again wanted to experience the pain of feeling powerless and intimidated physically.  As a result, I used that motivator to drive me to work out, become stronger, and learn mixed martial arts.
  • I was in massive credit card debt in my early twenties and was forced to live in my friends living room, as a way to save money and pay off my debt.  The pain and the embarrassment of this drove me to have to find a way to make money online.  When I travelled to Southeast Asia for three months, I made it my mission to be earning $300/month passive income from an online business by the time I came back to Canada.  The pain of having to go back to Canada and live in a living room was unacceptable for me.  There was no way I was going to go back to that standard of living, which is what drove me to wake up early and stay up late finding ways to make money online.
  • The pain of not being able to do or experience what I wanted was unacceptable for me.  I vividly remember wanting to do certain things in my life, but not having the finances to be able to do it, which made me sad.  I hated the feeling of not being able to do or experience what I want.  We only get to live this life once… how is that a way to live?
  • I used the pain of not being where I wanted to be in life.  The pain of comparing myself to others and seeing others living the life that I really wanted and felt I deserved.  I used the pain of not being able to help people or serve people at the highest level.  Not being able to grow or improve myself.  The pain of missing out on opportunities.  Not being able to provide for important people in my life.  Pain… pain… and more pain!

Every failure, every set-back in my life I used as a new reason to take more action.

I would FIND REASONS and use the PAIN OF THEM to drive me to work my ass off.  This is what has kept me continuously motivated throughout my life to make massive changes and achieve success.

Why Most People Never Find A Strong Enough WHY…

The reason why most people never find a strong enough WHY is because they aren’t willing to be honest with themselves.

You see, it isn’t comfortable experiencing pain.  Most of us would rather lie to ourselves and tell ourselves, “Everything is okay.  My life is fine.  It’s not that bad yet.”

When really, it isn’t.  This is just an EXCUSE and a way for people to “soften” things, as a way of avoiding to be honest and experience that pain.

If you can get to the TRUTH, you can change anything in your life.  The truth will set you free.

But in order for you to be 100% honest at yourself, look yourself in the mirror and admit that something isn’t good enough in your life requires a massive amount of courage.  You have to be willing to endure that pain and most people are afraid to.

If you’re overweight and want to get in better shape, it’s not until you finally look yourself in the mirror and admit to yourself that you’re FAT that you will get yourself motivated enough to make that change.  You have to look yourself in the mirror and finally be honest with yourself.

You have to stop LYING TO YOURSELF and making it ACCEPTABLE for being overweight.  You have to set a new standard and say, “I’m not willing to live this way anymore.”

But do most people that are overweight do that?  Of course not.  Instead, they say things to AVOID feeling that pain, such as “You know, I’m just big boned.  It’s my genetics.  It’s not that bad yet…”

These are all reasons of avoiding the feeling of pain.

But guess what?  Eventually you get to a point where you can’t avoid it any longer, as it’s just a matter of time before you pay the price of the consequences of being in debt, being overweight, or settling in your life.

There will be a moment in your life when the pain gets so intense that you finally have to confront it.  This is when people hit ROCK BOTTOM and experience an EMOTIONAL THRESHOLD.  This is what often forces people to change and use the painful reasons to drive them.

What Motivates Me Today…

While I openly admit that pain has driven me for most of my life, I now have a good balance of pain and pleasure that drives me.  In the past, I was desperate and had my back against the wall.  I had no choice but to find a way to change my life and most of the reasons were more painful than pleasurable.  But that’s changed today…

Here’s some of my compelling reasons that drive me to do what I do today:

  • The PAIN of having a job, being broke, being in debt, being overweight, getting sick or a life-threatening illness, being in a mediocre relationship, having to get a divorce, not being able to help my family, not being able to fulfill my mission and contribute to others, settling for an “okay” life.  The PAIN of these are what drive me today to continually get better and improve myself, make more money, become more successful, and achieve my goals.  Since I’ve experienced the PAIN of all of these things already in my life, I remind myself of it constantly and there’s no way that I’m going back.
  • The PLEASURE of having freedom to do what I want, travel the world, buy whatever I want, being lean and muscular, being healthy and energetic, having a passionate loving relationship, starting a family, being able to help my family, living my mission each day and fulfilling my destiny of changing the world.  In the same way, the PLEASURE of these drive me to continuously get better and improve myself, make more money, become more successful, and achieve my goals.

As you can see, I have clear, compelling reasons WHY that I associate powerful emotion to that drive me each day.

This is my secret to motivation.

I’ve learned to USE the power of pain and pleasure, instead of having it use me.

If I have a bad day or a day when I find myself regressing, I momentarily give myself a burst of pain and then use that to get myself back on track.  I remind myself that this isn’t a standard that I’m willing to live by and I use it as motivation to improve.

If I fall off my diet for a day, then I use the pain of that to get back on track the next day and get myself motivated again.

If I experience a failure in my business, then I use the pain of that to push me harder to succeed even more.

If I have a girl that it doesn’t work out with in my favour, then I use the pain of that to become better so that I can attract the right woman in my life.

In the same way, I’m constantly pulled towards the PLEASURE of having what I want.

What Is Your Reason Why?

If you can discover what your compelling reason WHY is at this stage of your life, it will awaken a sleeping giant within you.

It’s time to get honest with yourself and discover what your REASON to achieve your goals is.

One way to do that is to ask yourself these questions:

  • What is my goal and more importantly, why do I want it?
  • What will be the consequences in my life if I don’t achieve this goal?  What will it ultimately cost me? (pain-inducing question)
  • What will my life be like in 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years if I don’t achieve this and stay where I’m at right now?  Am I willing to continue living this way?
  • What are the benefits and rewards in my life that I will experience by achieving this goal?  How will my life improve for the better? (pleasure-inducing question)
  • What will my life be like in 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years if I achieve this goal?  How will this affect all areas of my life for the better?

Be 100% honest with yourself.

I’ve broken down and cried on many occasions by honestly answering these questions – it’s okay.

When I look back throughout my life, the most painful moments have been the best moments of my life.  I simply wouldn’t be who I am today if I didn’t endure the pain and challenges that I faced, as I was able to use them all as motivation and drive to become better.  I used my circumstances and life conditions as motivation.

If you go through this exercise honestly and have the courage to experience pain, then I promise you, you will unleash a surge of energy within you to take massive action and achieve your goals.

10 reasons why YOU CAN achieve your dreams

I would like to share the following article with you.
Credit to the author and source listed below.
Michael Thornley
‘Achieve your dreams’

“Instead of realizing their dreams, too many people never get started, too busy, instead listing all the reasons why they cannot achieve their dreams.”
– Mohamed Tohami

Things like:

  1. I do not have enough money.
  2. I’m not talented.
  3. I do not have enough knowledge.
  4. I do not have enough experience.
  5. I have failed many times in the past.
  6. I’m not lucky.
  7. Who I am to dream of making such an impact.
  8. …and so on.

They defeat themselves before they even get started!

This is not what you deserve.

So, here are 10 reasons why YOU CAN achieve your dreams:

1. You can because it’s feels great!

“To be able to get out of bed and do what you love for the rest of the day is beyond words.” –  John Schroeder

Your dream exists to turn your life into a masterpiece of joy and contribution. Doing what you love and living your life on your own terms are the best things you can do for yourself.

2. You can because it’s YOUR dream

Writer Richard Bach says, “You’re never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however.

The dream that is born inside your heart will never exist, if you do not have the power to make it come true. That’s a timeless truth.

Since you have thought about it, then you have an innate ability to achieve it.

It’s so unique that only you can make it true.

3. You can because it shapes your future

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

The world’s movers and shakers are those who believed in their dreams and persevered until they manifested what they have dreamt about.

Envision your dream and see by your heart’s eyes how it can change the world and have a huge impact on so many lives.

4. You can because you can land on the clouds

“I’m a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds.”  Mike Tyson

When you work on your dreams, you will create your best life possible. Even if you cannot reach the stars, you will at least land on the clouds.

5. You can because you are hungry

If you take responsibility for yourself you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams.” –Les Brown

Nothing will feed your hunger for making a difference more than pursuing your dream.

It will add meaning to your life and make your efforts worthwhile. It will make you wake up every morning with exhilaration and enthusiasm.

As Les Brown says, “You gotta be HUNGRY”

6. You can because you don’t want to die again

When you cease to dream you cease to live.” –Malcolm Forbes

If you ignore the love and light in your heart, your soul will die of starvation.

Too many people are living, but very few are actually ALIVE!

Following a dream is the only way to start living. When you dream, you become alive. And I do not think you want to ignore your dream and die again.

7. You can because you are a pioneer

A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.” –Oscar Wilde

You will face criticism, not because you are wrong, but because you are a pioneer.

People are not used to see dreamers who have crazy ideas to make the world a better place.

Most people are so stuck in the rut that they do not believe someone can get out, spread his/her wings and fly high in the sky.

8. You can because you deserve it

Dreams are the touchstones of our character.” –Henry David Thoreau

You deserve to have a big dream and to become remarkable. If you do not leave your mark in the world, no one will remember you.

Living small makes you small and you are born to be great. You have a dream because you have a strong character that strives to live big and be big.

9. You can because there is a problem that only you can solve

Dreams are today’s answers to tomorrow’s questions.” –Edgar Cayce

You dream because you have a burning desire to solve a problem or fulfill a need that would make the world a better place.

You are our answer to our most difficult questions. You owe it to us and to the world.

10. You can because you’ve got the courage

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” –Walt Disney

All what your dream needs is courage that will nurture it and make it grow beyond all limitations. And you have this courage within you.

If you’re passionate about it, unleash it. No matter what you think or what other people think, YOU CAN.

You can.

You deserve.

You owe it to yourself and to the world.

It’s time to believe in the beauty of your dreams and show the world the promise and brilliance of your legacy. ”

 Mohamed Tohami

(Mohamed Tohami is a bestselling author and the creator of “The P.A.S. Technique: The World’s Easiest Way To Find Your Passion and Purpose In Life”)

Love yourself first

” Let today be the day that you love yourself enough to no longer just dream of a better life; Let it be the day you act upon it!”…… Steve Maraboli

Your life is a journey of learning to love yourself first and then extending that onto others.
When we find that we truly do not love ourselves it is hard to be in a relationship with others. You find yourself in conflict with most people you come across in love, life and business and indeed we find ourselves blaming everyone else because of our lack of self love.

So it is time to stop blaming others and making excuses. Take action to change your mindset now!

Love yourself enough to
– take the actions required for your happiness.
cut yourself loose from your drama filled past
set a high standard for relationships (Personal and Business)
– feed your body and your mind within a healthy manner
forgive yourself…enough to move on

No one is going to love you if you do not love yourself.

Self confidence is the ability to feel beautiful without needing someone to tell you 🙂

Get some fresh air!

Get some fresh air! Do you ever find yourself stuck in an office all day long or perhaps locked inside your home due to work or inclement weather? Bogged down and stressed out, depressed even, unable to break out of that downward spiral of cabin fever. The stale air of your room hanging over you like a menacing fog or even a collective of odours being recycled through the office air-conditioning unit….. Well the answer is quite simple…… go outside and enjoy the fresh air!

Feel the energy returning as the sun warms your face and the breeze blows away the cobwebs. A renewed energy envelopes you ready to tackle the next task at hand. Find a balance in your day and you will be rewarded with a more productive and positive outlook and a growth in health, wealth and happiness 🙂

Michael Thornley
‘ Achieve your dreams’

Stop procrastinating!

We have all been guilty of  putting off today what we can do tomorrow’…. always ‘munana’ (tomorrow).

I can relate to putting off the hard tasks in life but inevitably we will have to do them so why not get them over and done with and be tranquil….. that is what I keep telling my self at any rate.  🙂

Who else can realte to this? I am sure most of you can. Yet there are many positive experiences awaiting us that may seem impossible to achieve at this moment yet we continue to find excuses as to why we can not do something. Indeed if an aspect of the pending experience does not feel right, then always go with your ‘gut feeling’ ….your intuition…. and postpone the task or try a different tactic to achieve it.

However, where time is used as an excuse, then that is really a rather paltry excuse as, if we sat down and looked at out time management during our day or in our week, I am sure that there will be always time to pursue other interests.

How many of you reading this are thinking “I would love to go on that holiday’ or ” I must phone or visit a loved one’ or ‘ I have always wanted to do such and such’….so what are you waiting for?

If it is monetary then plan for it, work for it, save for it and do it! If it has been a time factor then make the time!

Indeed reflect on those you know that were ‘gunna do it’ but never got around to doing it and then the Universe called them and they never had the pleasure of that experience nor did they end up sharing it with others.

So you know all those things you always wanted to do? You should go do them! NOW!

Mindset detox with Kristen Owens

O’ Happy Day Michael,
I was speaking with a new client the other day who was so candid when she was explaining to me how hard it has been to maintain a mindset of success. She constantly has that little voice in her head reminding her of why she hasn’t reached her goals yet.  She feels like a failure when she sees other people maintaining laser focus and keeping a mindset of success that she often feels like she shouldn’t bother.
She tells me that she has so many ideas but rarely crosses the finish line on any of them.  Her intentions are good but the outcome is the same every time.
You see Michael, she’s been doing this for years and still has not broken through. I know she is not the only one. In fact, I used to do that same thing myself.  It breaks my heart to see talented, deserving individuals struggling.

The Short, Sweet and Simple Guide To The 7 Chakras – Guest post by Trish Rock

Simple Guide To The 7 Chakras

We have energy centres in our bodies?

Its interesting, lately I have been talking to a lot of people outside of my regular circles and I have been quite surprised that many are unaware of the energy we hold and flow in your bodies

Being friends with so many people in the spiritual and energetic realms means the conversations are normal when we speak of energy, chakras, manifesting and flow.

There are however many that do not know of, or even understand it.

So today, in this blog, I thought I would address that and give you an easy guide to Chakra energy and what it means to the body, mind and to the life and manifesting ability of a human.

I’m keeping it short and simple (cos thats how I roll) :)

The body is energy. In fact, everything is energy.

Flowing, changing, expanding.

There are many energy areas in our bodies and there are 7 main areas which we will be talking about here.

  • Root Chakra
  • Sacral Chakra
  • Solar Plexus Chakra
  • Heart Chakra
  • Throat Chakra
  • Third Eye Chakra
  • Crown Chakra

Here is my short, sweet and simple guide to each chakra centre:

Root Chakra

The Root Chakra, or Base Chakra, is located at the base of the spine.

This Chakra centre is all about grounding, physical possessions, survival, prosperity, money, action and abundance.

Taking action is vital in achieving anything in our physical life and reality. Having great energy here will easily see you taking the steps required to get results that are seen in physical life. This Chakra is all about taking action on our dreams and goals.

Recognizing any fears you may have, facing them and moving through them, is one of the best ways to strengthen this area.

Take time to stand in nature, barefoot, connecting and grounding, reclaiming your power to attract prosperity and success into your life.

Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is located below the naval.

This Chakra centre is all about emotion, feelings and relationship.

Being centred in our emotions and making decisions from a more empowered place rather than an emotional place is vital for moving forward with more ease and success. Being real, honest and open in your relationship with yourself and others will be strengthened by balancing this area.

Looking at where you feel guilt and shame in your life (or past lives) is one way to clear this area and strengthen it.

Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus Chakra is located just above the naval.

This Chakra centre is all about personal power, ego, pride, confidence and will power.

Clearing and strengthening this area will mean a more effective life with will power and confidence to be in the world as the empowered energy you are.

Often we are seeking approval or are around people who are seeking approval. Helping others, and yourself, to be more empowered and confident will help strengthen this area.

Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra is located in the centre of the chest (heart).

This Chakra centre is all about Love, healing and source energy flow.

Increase love of self and others as well as compassion for self and others. All living things are connected and deserve our love and respect.

Learning to truly serve and be selfless is the key to opening this area. Feel the connectedness you are, the Love you are and the energy of all life that flows through you.

Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is located in the throat area.

This Chakra centre is all about communication, speaking your truth and expression.

Being open and honest about how we feel about ourselves, and others, and expressing that is the key here. Ask yourself if your words have hurt others or if you are not expressing your truth.

Gaining the confidence to listen to your truth, know it and then express it in the way that suits you best (words, music, painting, etc) and serves others well, is the key to opening this area and strengthening it.

Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra is located between the brows (eyes).

This Chakra centre is all about intuition, seeing the truth and feeling connected.

When we have a clear connection to our inner guidance, life becomes much more flowing and there is more grace and ease.

To achieve balance here it is important to drop the ego and the human mind and go more into ‘feeling’ and ‘knowing’. Trust the inner voices and guidance that comes in all forms.

Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is located above the head (or top of head).

This Chakra centre is all about knowing, Divinity and inspiration.

This is your link to the Divine oneness that we all are.

Once we can control out thoughts, the awareness of our life purpose becomes much clearer. Materialistic ideals and ideas can often keep us attached to the human state, which makes it challenging to tap into the state of natural flow from the Universal energy.

When blocked or not in flow, we feel separate and the true divine messages that are there for us always, are not clear. Imagine a beautiful white light coming into the crown of your head and flowing through your body to help clear this Chakra.

Flow and Feeling are the keys here.

What is not flowing well in your life right now? Can you relate that to a particular Chakra energy centre or several areas?

Are you connected to source but not prosperous with money flow?

Do you easily have money coming to you but still do not know what your life purpose may be?

I can help you get clear around where your life may be enhanced and when you work with me, manifesting becomes fun :) Click here to contact me

There are many tools and techniques available to help you achieve balance and harmony in all areas of your life. Getting your energy flowing and tapping in to the amazing resource of energy we all have will certainly change the way your life looks.

I hope this short, sweet and simple guide has helped your understanding of the 7 Chakra centres.
