How to Deal With the Haters
There is a famous quote often attributed to Aristotle: “Criticism is something you can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”

Moving into the spotlight takes courage. You raise your head above others and sometimes people will want to knock you back down.

While we all want to be loved, not everyone is going to love you.

When I launched my book, From Unknown To Expert, in Australia I sent an email out to everyone on my database offering the book for free as way of saying thank you for their support.

One of the first replies went something like this: “You’ve lost all credibility in my eyes. I’m instantly un-following you from LinkedIn, emails and Twitter.”

Um… OK. That is quite a reaction to a free book from someone who had been a vocal fan. I didn’t ask why, I just replied with, “Have a great day.”

But it did upset me. Up until that point, I hadn’t put myself out there to the extent that people would have such a strong reaction to me.

It freaked me out, and I wondered if I could deal with the criticism. It was a massive learning opportunity for me, and I realised I would have to figure out how to deal with the haters.

So how do you deal with the haters?

Not all criticism is bad
At times criticism leads to positive outcomes. It opens you up to new perspectives and highlights issues that can be improved. Sometimes this isn’t easy, but you can grow from it if you allow yourself to.

Feel the love
I delete the nasty emails, I don’t keep them in my inbox. But I do keep the positive ones. I feel the love from the most incredible and amazing people every day. I also read my Amazon reviews to boost my confidence and reconnect to the reason why I worked so hard to share my book.

Live in kindness
Practicing kindness is transformational and beautiful. It is a very important practice in my life and the kindness you offer yourself and others can transform a situation (and your life). This also allows for forgiveness, so you don’t carry the stress and negative energy around from your haters.

Don’t give away your power
Sometimes I just say “Screw you” – very loudly! (And, sometimes I may use stronger language!) Use the hate to drive you forward. Don’t allow cruelty or negative comments bring you down. Go out there and make it happen and seize your dreams. Believe in yourself.

Courage means never giving up

Courage means never giving up

‘Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”
~ Mary Anne Radmacher

Never give up or give in until you have achieved a result.

Have the resolve and fortitude to be true to your convictions and follow through on all that you do.

Continue on your desired path, learn from the experiences gained on your journey and concentrate on what is important removing any negativity along the way.

Commitment and Consistency

What are the two biggest challenges people face in life that prevent them from being a success?

Commitment and consistency.

Most people dabble in this…… They “commit” to something at the beginning, when it’s new and exciting, yet that “commitment” soon wears off. It’s not long before they’ve “changed their mind” or come up with some excuse or reason to “commit” to something else.

This is the downfall of many, as they continually jump from one thing to the next. On top of that, they lack any form of consistency. They don’t show up. As the saying goes, “80% of success is just showing up”, yet many people can’t even do that.

Commitment and Consistency applies to both one’s business and personal life. It is fine to investigate and conduct research into a ‘project’ but ‘start it’ ‘try it’ and ‘give it’ all you have! Indeed in many instances the ‘project’ may not work but a valuable lesson has been learnt to empower you and guide you to a better path. However if you have not totally ‘committed’ yourself to the task then how can you possibly achieve success?

A secret to success is to be humble enough to ask for help from those that are already experts in the field. Swallow your pride and be guided by a suitable mentor. Why try to re-invent the wheel when the solution is already mapped out for you. Just add your own ‘ingredients’ to enhance the recipe to success to make it your own.

‘Just do it’….NIKE

Go forth and prosper!

Your habits determine your future

Guest blog with Kristen Owens
Your habits determine your future.
Is that encouraging for you to hear?  For me, it is a wakeup call to allow me to look into my life and assess where I am and what I need to shift.
You have one life and you have choice to shift whatever is needed to get you closer to where you want to go.
Successful people have successful habits, unsuccessful people don’t!
Without any condemnation or judgement, this is a simple statement to assess where you are now and what we can do to change.
You see, your brain likes to keep you safe. You’ve survived safe and you will again. This is the reason why it can be ever so difficult to ingrain that new habit into place. You’re used to doing that old thing and now you’re asking your brain to do something that is unfamiliar and to it, it is like risking your life cause you never know what will be on other side.
What if you could acknowledge the fear you have and then remember your commitment around your goal, access the courage from that place and do it afraid or do it even if it’s hard?
What then would be the outcome?
Would you have died?  Fainted? Or maybe you will have a new respect for yourself, a new found confidence and a sense of accomplishment that you can do this.
Make a list of habits that keep you unproductive. Really think about it because your habits determine your quality of life.  These bad habits or obstacles to your goals act as a springboard to your future success, because your habits determine your success.
If you don’t know what’s holding you back how do you know what new habits to create for more productive habits?  You won’t and you can’t.
I encourage to ask others around you what habits do they think hold you back.  Many times we don’t see what others see in us.
Once you’ve determined what bad habits you have then determine a success habit to adopt. Once you have these two then create a 3 step action plan.  This plan is where you will determine 3 steps you can put into place immediately to begin to change that habit.
If it is around growing your wealth and you have a habit of not paying yourself first, saving money and increasing your fees to be paid what you’re worth.  You may choose to begin to work with a money coach or a coach to improve relationship with money. You also decide to track your income you make and what you save.
This is just an example of steps that will help you to reach your goal and improve your habits. You may not see immediate changes but if you are consistent and disciplined you will see after 30 days, 90 days, 6 months and year the difference it made.  Patience is key!
I would love to hear what #success habits you plan to adopt to taking you closer to what you want.  You  can do that in my private facebook group here.
If you want some help with an action step, tool, strategy to get you on right track I would be happy to jump on a quick call too help you out. Reply to this email and type ‘chat please’.
Have a fab week!

‘ Magic exists. Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers, the music of the wind and the silence of the stars? Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic. It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part of the lives we live.’ ~ Nora Roberts
