How Old Are You Really?
Sharing part of the ‘Timeless You’ course by Deepak Chopra
” Whenever someone asks, “How old are you?” you probably base your answer on the number of years you’ve been alive. Simple enough. It’s what we’ve all been taught. But scientists are learning that how old you really are is based on the inner workings of your body.
Chronological age is the age on your birth certificate and merely answers the question, “How many times have you, in this body, revolved around the sun?” Chronological age cannot be altered, but, in reality, it has little relevance to how you feel or function.
Biological age is something entirely different. Scientists have recognized that humans do not age at the same rate biologically. A 50-year-old who takes good care of herself can have the biology of a 35-year-old. Alternatively, a 50-year-old who has let himself go may have the biology of someone many years older. Biological age is based on everything from your blood pressure and body fat, to your bone density and cholesterol levels.
Biological age, not chronological age, is the key component of the aging process. And contrary to what you might believe, no matter what your biological age is today, you can alter it and regain the physical and emotional vitality you had in the past.
